Holi Colors

The most indispensable and exciting element of the festival of Holi are the strikingly vivid colors. Without the colors, celebrating Holi is simply unimaginable. The multihued aura of the surroundings that forms on the day of Holi, gets all and sundry charged up. This is the reason why Holi is called the Festival of colors and also the Carnival of colors.

Far and wide the air comes alive with the colors of Holi. Everyone smears colors called-gulal on each other and hug everyone. The colors of Holi add a zing to the ambience that brings everyone in a jolly good mood. The very sight of people playing with the colors entices everyone to join the band of people on the streets and have fun.

Origin and Significance Holi Colors
Legend has it that when Lord Krishna complained to his mother about being dark complexioned and Radha- his companion being fair, his mother suggested that Krishna could color Radha’s face with any color he likes. The idea pleased Lord Krishna so much that this tradition, even to this day, is carried out with great pomp and show. Lovers look forward to the festival Holi to be mottled with colors by their significant other.

Since the festival of Holi is played with many colors, each color stands for distinct emotions and sentiments. For instance, red stands for purity, yellow stands for virtuousness, blue for peace and green stands for vigor.

Without these colors the festivity of Holi would be just pale as can be. The essence of it all is that the colors bring about a feeling of oneness amongst all that ignites brotherhood in the society. And that is the reason why we all say –HAPPY HOLI.
